Michigan Synagogue Attacker Inspired by Hezbollah Militant Ideology

📅 March 12, 2026 → Oakland County MI Profile

FBI confirmed that the March 12, 2026 attack at Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan was a Hezbollah-inspired act of terrorism. Ayman Ghazali, a 41-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Lebanon, rammed his explosive-laden pickup truck into Michigan's largest synagogue and exchanged gunfire with security guards before killing himself. The attacker was motivated by Hezbollah's militant ideology following the death of his two brothers, who were Hezbollah members killed in an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon on March 5. Ghazali had recorded videos stating he wanted to "kill as many of them as I possibly can" and spent months researching pro-Hezbollah content. While dozens of law enforcement officers were treated for smoke inhalation, no synagogue staff or the 140 preschool students were injured. The attack highlights the ongoing threat of foreign terrorist organization-inspired violence against religious communities in the United States.
