Graves County was at the epicenter of the catastrophic December 10 2021 tornado — one of the deadliest and longest-track tornadoes in US history. The tornado traveled approximately 165 miles killing dozens across multiple Kentucky counties with Graves County including Mayfield suffering the worst damage. Mayfield Consumer Products candle factory was destroyed killing multiple workers sheltering inside. The disaster became a national symbol of extreme tornado vulnerability in western Kentucky.
