Calhoun County in northeast Alabama anchored by Anniston was devastated by the April 27 2011 tornado super outbreak. The county also has a significant environmental legacy from PCB contamination by Monsanto which contaminated soil and water in Anniston for decades in one of the most significant environmental justice cases in US history. Fort McClellan formerly in the county was a chemical weapons training facility. The Coosa River creates flooding risk.
