Westlake Louisiana sits on the Calcasieu River adjacent to Lake Charles and hosts a massive industrial complex including Sasol's chemical operations, Entergy's generating station, and proximity to the Calcasieu Pass LNG export terminal. Calcasieu Parish was devastated by two hurricanes in 2020 — Laura and Delta — which caused catastrophic damage to the industrial infrastructure. The chemical and LNG facility concentration makes Westlake one of the most industrially hazardous communities on the Gulf Coast.
