Port Neches Texas experienced a catastrophic chemical plant explosion in November 2019 when the TPC Group butadiene facility exploded, triggering evacuations of 50,000 residents in Jefferson County. The facility continued burning for days. Jefferson County hosts one of the most concentrated petrochemical and refinery corridors in the US — Port Neches, Nederland, and Groves together form a massive industrial complex on the Neches River. The area is also near the liquefied natural gas infrastructure of the Sabine Pass corridor.
