Lukeville Arizona is a small border crossing community in southern Pima County adjacent to the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument — one of the most remote and environmentally significant sections of the US-Mexico border. The crossing was temporarily closed by CBP in late 2023 due to overwhelming migrant crossings. The Sonoran Desert environment creates extreme heat and survival emergencies for migrants attempting illegal crossings. Medical emergency response in this remote area is extremely limited.
