Pueblo County on the Arkansas River in southern Colorado faces moderate tornado risk on the eastern plains and serious flash flooding from the Arkansas River. A significant tornado struck Pueblo in June 2011. The county hosts Pueblo Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant which is destroying Cold War era chemical weapons stockpiles — one of only two such facilities in the United States — creating unique chemical weapons emergency planning requirements.
