Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay is the primary Marine Corps installation in the Pacific and home to the 3rd Marine Regiment. The base sits on the Mokapu Peninsula on the windward side of Oahu overlooking Kaneohe Bay. The Mokapu Peninsula is extremely vulnerable to tsunami inundation — the 1946 and 1960 Pacific tsunamis caused significant damage to the windward Oahu coast. Marine Corps Base Hawaii is a key staging point for Marine forces in the Pacific theater and hosts significant aviation assets.
