Coronado California is home to Naval Air Station North Island — the Birthplace of Naval Aviation and the homeport for multiple US Navy aircraft carriers. The installation hosts Carrier Air Wing operations and is one of the most strategically significant naval installations in the US Pacific Fleet. Naval Special Warfare Command — which oversees US Navy SEALs — is also based in Coronado. The Coronado peninsula is extremely vulnerable to earthquake damage and potential tsunami inundation. As a primary homeport for Pacific carrier operations, Coronado is a priority target for Chinese intelligence collection and potential attack planning.
