Altus AFB is the sole aircrew training base for the KC-135 Stratotanker, KC-46 Pegasus aerial refueling tanker, and C-17 Globemaster III strategic airlifter — the three aircraft that enable virtually every US military combat operation globally. No US combat mission beyond short range can be sustained without aerial refueling tankers trained here. The 97th Air Mobility Wing trains over 3,000 aircrew members annually.
