Roseburg is Douglas County's hub in the Umpqua River valley of southwestern Oregon, with significant wildfire risk from surrounding forests and earthquake exposure from the Cascadia system. The 2020 Archie Creek Fire burned within miles of the city and forced evacuations across the county. Roseburg is also known for a 1959 truck explosion that destroyed downtown — one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in US history at that time.
