Narragansett is a Washington County coastal community directly on the open Atlantic and Narragansett Bay with extreme hurricane and storm surge exposure. The 1938 New England Hurricane drove catastrophic surge through the town, and the 1954 Hurricane Carol caused severe damage. At low coastal elevation with multiple miles of exposed shoreline, Narragansett is among Rhode Island's most hurricane-vulnerable communities.
