Mandeville is a St. Tammany Parish lakefront community on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain with significant hurricane storm surge exposure. The city was severely impacted by Hurricane Katrina's north shore surge in 2005. Mandeville is connected to New Orleans via the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway — the world's longest continuous over-water bridge — which becomes impassable and then inaccessible during major storm events, isolating the north shore communities.
